Business Class Airfare Wars - Cheaper Premium Flights Between Europe And USA From Just $1,000 Return
By Dave Smith
The business class flight sector has recently come to life with a number of new airlines flying across the Atlantic between UK, Europe and the United States. These start-ups offer top service for little more than an economy price. Let's take a look at how you could significantly reduce your business class airfare from New York to Europe:
There are currently 5 all-business class airlines flying from New York to Europe:
1. MaxJet - This budget all-business US carrier flies 6 times a week from New York JFK to London Stansted. It also flies from Stansted to Washington D.C. and to Las Vegas. Maxjet uses a Boeing 767 configured with 102 seats of 60" pitch.
This is a business class service with a premium economy price tag. Tickets from JFK to London start at around $1,500 return from the US and £860 return ex-UK.
2. Silverjet - This UK start-up flies daily from London Luton to Newark New York. Like Maxjet they also use a Boeing 767 with 100 business class seats - slightly more legroom is available at a generous 75". Silverjet have their own private terminal at Luton which means waiting time to board the aircraft is minimal. A 'Saver' ticket will set you back £799 return from London while standard fare costs £999 or $1,950 from the US. Luton is 45 minutes north of London.
3. EOS Airlines - EOS fly twice daily between London Stansted and New York JFK using a Boeing 757 with just 48 seats and a class leading 78" pitch. Service is top notch and is aimed at the first class segment of the market. Prices are equivalent to business class on major carriers - return fares are from $2,500 or £1,840 ex-UK.
4. L'Avion – This recent French start-up flies 6-times-a-week from Paris Orly to New York Newark using a Boeing 757-200 with 90 seats (48" seat pitch, 140 degrees of recline). Special offer prices are available at $1,000 return from NY and €1,000 from Paris.
5. EuroFly MiMa - This is an Italian all business class service from Milan Malpensa to New York Kennedy. The 5-times-weekly flight is made by an Airbus A319 with just 48 seats. Seat pitch comes in at 58". Priced at under $3,000 all in.
We also recently saw Gulf heavyweight airline Emirates come in to the European market with a direct flight from Hamburg, Germany to New York - offering some decent biz class fares. This is in addition to the usual competitive business class airfares available from some of the more 'offbeat' airlines like Air India and Kuwait Airways - both of which have rights to fly between New York and London.
And business class passengers of Lufthansa, Swiss and KLM on certain special routes to the US have the option of flying with PrivatAir - an all business class service at the same price as a standard upper class ticket.
All this competition is good for the air travel consumer and can only force prices downwards.
Happy flying in 2007!
